Puerto Suárez, with approximately 13,000 inhabitants (in the city proper), is one of the fastest growing cities and most recent Bolivia´s. Nommé for Miguel Suárez Arana, visionary of the 19th century who imagined a utopian in the middle of the Pantanal regulation, it was founded by him in 1875, for the purposes of establishing a presence on the border with Brazil and - of course - use adjacent Río Paraguay for trade.
